Burgas

       Burgas is a city in Eastern Bulgaria, centre of Burgas district, and it has the biggest region's area (7748,1 sq. km) in Bulgaria. It is also a big economical, cultural and administrative centre of southern Bulgarian Black Sea. Burgas has 230 961 inhabitants and it is on 4th place of population in Bulgaria, after Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. The airport with the most heavy traffic in Bulgaria is Burgas', after the one in Sofia. Burgas' harbour has the biggest load/unload traffic in Bulgaria. Through the summer the city is visited by bulgarian and foreign tourists.

      Burgas is situated in the westernmost point of the bay of the same name and in the eastern part of the Burgas plain which is located to the east of the Upper Thracian Plain. Burgas is located at 389 km east of Sofia, 272 km of Plovdiv and 350 km of Istanbul. To the east and north the city is surrounded by the Burgas Lakes - Vaya, Atanasovsko and Mandrensko which are home to several hundred bird species. Pan-European corridor 8 passes through the city.

The area between the three lakes and Black sea is called “Crossroad of the ancient civilisations”.

      Native inhabitants of the region are thracians. Around 6th century B.C. By the coast they create many cities, like Apolonia, Mesemvria, Anhialo and any others, which are probably created by greek emigrants.

      The climate in Burgas is very pleasant – soft and warm winter, sunny summer and there are optimum conditions for recreational processes. Average annual air temperature is about 12,4°С, average January's temperature 1°С, and in July it is around 23,8°С. The summer is warm and the winter is soft and not very cold. The spring comes in the middle of march, and the warm and sunny autumn ends in november. Cloudiness and air`s humidity are at meduim level, annual average rainfalls are 500mm, snow cover stays only 20 days in an year. Foggs are scrace – about 25 days with fog per year. Sunshine continuance is about 2000 hours a year.

Sightseeing:

  • There are many little streets in central part of the town, old houses and picturesque Sea garden, therefore Burgas is considered to be the most romantic city in Bulgaria.

  •  One of the most popular sightseeings is “The Bridge”, built in the 80`s in 20th century.

Theaters:

  • Drama theatre „A. Budevska“ Drama, opera and ballet theatre (Burgas` opera)

  • National puppet theatre

  •  Burgas` philharmonic orchestra

  •  There are also some concert halls in Burgas
