Malko Tarnovo is a town in South-Eastern Bulgaria close to the Turkish border, centre of the province in Burgas district. It is in Strandzha mountain and the region is known with its mineral springs. The town is a transport center for those who travel to Turkey. The citizens (3000) of Malko Tarnovo and the villages around it are predecessors of the old Bulgarian population. This is confirmed by the documents and scientific researches. Independently of the migration processes the ethnodemographic content of the population in Malko Tarnovo is pure Bulgarian.
Through Strandzha pass the southern Mediterranean cyclones to the Black sea. The ridge of the mountain holds the southwestern winds coming form East Thrace and also the northeastern winds from the Black sea. During the winter Strandzha is in the core of the Mediterranean cyclones and by this reason the weather is warm (0.5 – 2.5º С) and rainy. The average temperature in January is 0.9º С and the absolute minimum for this period is -22.9º С. The precipitation during the winter is high. The summer is sunny and dry but because the Black Sea is nearby it is not so hot. The temperatures in July are between 21º and 22.5º С and often there are extreme temperatures of 34º - 40º С. The relative humidity of the air is about 68 %.The spring is cooler in comparison with the insides of the country, the spring is also warm. The winter maximum of the precipitation and the plants are facts that prove the strong Mediterranean influence.

In Malko Tarnovo and the villages around it there are many archaeological finds related to the Thracians. According to many famous researchers, there exists a very ancient place. The tourists are very interested in the two dome Thracian tombs around the town. Built by precisely constructed marvel blocks they are works of the Thracian monumental architecture from the 5-3 age B.C. Representing the funeral practices of the aristocracy. The archaeological finds show that the grave utilities have been used in the Roman age with the same purpose. The first documented and published Thracian cult building (tomb) under a knoll embankment in bulgarian territorry of Strandzha is this place “Propada”, 5km away from the town.
The whole region around Malko Tarnovo is full of dolmens, necropolis, tombs and ancient sanctuaries which deserve to be seen.
