Climate:
Because of its geographic situation in the country, the town has a humid continental climate with elements of Mediterranean influence. The average annual temperature of the air is 12°C and the the average temperature in January is 0,5° C and in July it is 23,2°С. The precipitations are mild – the average precipitation is around 600 mm and the snow blanket is weak, the humidity of the air is mild, the mists are also not dominant. Because of this and because of the open horizon the duration of the sun shining is too long – over 2100 hours per year. In conclusion, the summer is too ht and the winter – is comparatively warm, the spring comes early – about 10th march and the warm and sunny autumn continues until 20th november.
According to the archaeologists the first population on the territory of today's town has come in the middle of the New stone age about 5000 B.C. The Thracians used to call the town Marsa and the region – Asti.
Generations of people are proud of the triumph of tsar Ivan Asen II (1218 – 1241) near the village of Klokotnitsa by Haskovo. Here, in the day of the St. 40 Martyrs in 1320 the Bulgarian ruler defeats the army of the Epir despot Theodor Komnin who invaded the Bulgarian lands despite the concluded contract.
